Art Trail 2026 & Open Studios 

We had a fantastic Art Trail at The Rickyard with hundreds of visitors and made many sales for all the artists. We would like to say a big thank you to all the visitors and a special thank you to all the artists who made the event such a success.

Hope you enjoy this selection of some of the artists work from the Art Trail and Open Studios this year.

Immerse yourself in a day creating art, meeting new people and trying out new techniques. 

All materials and refreshments are included in the workshop unless otherwise stated. Please bring a pinny and a packed lunch.

We run all day and half day workshops to encourage and inspire you. Above is a workshop run by Lisa Tank using oil and cold wax to create stunning artworks.

Pour, drip, paint! Workshop

Liquid art with Sinclair Ashman

Spend a day with Sinclair, learning how inks and other liquid media can combine to create fascinating and images on paper. In this one-day workshop, you'll start by experimenting with many of the techniques Sinclair has used in his own practice to produce your own works.

Later in the day, you will either select portions of this work as this basis for a final image for you to take away and frame, or use it as inspiration for further pieces of art.

Hedgehog Roll Workshop

The second of Liz’s ceramic wildlife workshops. Hedgehog Rolls (complete with prickles and toe beans).Through the day, she will guide you step by step through the process as you learn hand-building techniques to create these charming creations that emerge over the course of the day.

Gelli Plate Concertina Books Workshop

Making books with Christine Plummer

The morning will be spent printing, using various papers with a Gel Plate, colour washing, stamping using wooden blocks and stencilling.

In the afternoon we will be using your papers then re-assembling them to decorate the covers of two concertina books that you will make.

Stitched Book Workshop

with Christine Plummer

Create this A5 size stitched book with four signatures incorporating different papers, some handmade. 

Hand stitching or machining to collage the papers together for the cover, then incorporating fabrics, threads and  buttons to create a front cover.

We hand stitch each signature into the spine of the book using contrasting or complementary threads.

Abstract Floral Collage

 Sharon Sycamore is excited to be offering her first abstract collage floral workshop at The Rickyard Gallery this September.
The workshop will focus on mixed-media, blending acrylic paints with collage papers to create engaging and emotive
contemporary pieces. Each participant will create their own unique piece that will be mounted at the end of the session.
If you love working with paper and glue then this workshop is a must.

Hare Head Wall Hanging

Wildlife artist Liz McLelland’s ceramic sculptures are rooted in close observation of wildlife.

The third of Liz’s workshops is this stunning  hare’s head that hangs on the wall. Through the day, she will guide you step by step through the process as you learn hand-building techniques that will breathe life into the clay. You'll see the character of your charming creation emerge over the course of the day as you refine and add texture to your design.
